LET’S FLY HIGH: INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH FOR OFFICERS (IEFO) TRAINING

17 August 2022 – A spectacular event held on 15th August 2022 was marked as the officiating ceremony of Lets’ Fly High, an Intermediate English for Officers (IEFO) Training organised by the Centre for Modern Languages (CML).

The remarkable event was officiated by the Assistant Chief of Staff Administration of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Brigadier General Haji Baharudin Haji Abu Hassan and witnessed by the Acting Commander of the Kuantan Airbase, Colonel Zulkifle Haji Samsu Hadi.

Also present, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni) of UMP, Professor Technologist Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed as well as the Dean of Centre for Modern Languages (CML), Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi. Other attendees of the event included RMAF trainees, trainers from CML and a few invited associates.

The accentuated training was designed for 20 officers of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) stationed at Kuantan Airbase. The crafted name highlights the English language as a medium of communication in this globalised era and its extensive use shall enable the RMAF officers to soar beyond their limits as well as interact effortlessly with their international counterparts.

The training consists of two modules: Writing and Communication. The two modules encompass various components of language skills which are Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing, and Grammar.

The main objectives of the 3-month training are (1) to improve participants’ knowledge of English language proficiency, (2) to develop their English communication skills and (3) to enhance their confidence in using English at work as well as in daily interaction.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has set to become the sole provider to industries and societies based on the specialised niches and areas of expertise by making our Centre for Modern Languages their primary choice to conduct language training courses particularly English Language with a top-notch education.

The demand for the Intermediate English for Officers Training is to cater for the needs of the RMAF officers in dealing with numerous affairs comprising national security as well as administrative tasks through well-spoken and written English.

This requires rigorous planning and ever-lasting support from both parties to join hands in realising the utmost achievement. Thus, the outcome of the constructed course shall benefit the trainees, who come from multiple working backgrounds in the long run.

It is hoped that many other organisations will be inspired to follow the same route in viewing English proficiency as one of the vital ways to attain success and not only measured as mere language competencies.
