UHF1111 MANDARIN FOR BEGINNERS

The course aims to enable students to speak simple Mandarin in their daily life. The students will learn Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin System) and about 150 vobabulary based on the Chinese Proficiency Test (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi HSK) Level One. Students will be exposed to simple phrases and basic sentence structures. Practices that based on HSK Level One grammar point are also introduced. Classroom activities will include listening, speaking,reading and writing. The students will be evaluated based on the four language skills. By the end of this course, students should be able to attempt the HSK Level 1 Exam or the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR) A1 level.

CO1:  Recognize pronunciation of simple Chinese words, phrases and sentences from audio media or recordings.

CO2:  Produce simple Chinese sentences about topics of personal interests.

CO3:  Apply basic reading skills to comprehend straight-forward connected texts.
