UHN 2113 EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY AND PSYCHOLOGY

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of philosophy and psychology in education. Students taking this course will have exposure to the overview of educational philosophy and psychology. The structure of the course content is organized by combining the key traditional theories with contemporary views. Assessment is based on the outcomes that students produce in the form of online timed quizzes, online timed personal statement and digital vignette writing assignment. It is anticipated that the knowledge from this course will enable students to gain an understanding of educational philosophy and psychology which contribute to enhanced teaching and learning process.

Module 1 discusses the overview of Educational Philosophy and Psychology. It also explains Cognitive and Linguistics Development. Also, the module describes Learning Cognition and Memory in learning. Videos are used as the learning materials in the module.  While Self-learning Problem based exercises are the Student-centered-learning activities that are assigned to the learners. In terms of assessment, a test is conducted in the module.  Module 2  introduces Behaviorist and Social Cognitive Views of Learning. For learning materials, a series of videos are used to give input to the learners. The learning activity mainly concerns with Self-learning Problem based exercises. While for assessment, learners need to complete an assignment.   Module 3 presents learners with the learning about motivation in learning. It also discusses the affective factors i.e. emotional factors which influence learning. Specifically, in the module learners learn The Nature of Motivation, Intrinsic Vs Extrinsic, Cognitive and Sociocultural Factors in Motivation, Self-determination in Learning and Internalizing Values and Motivational Beliefs. The learning materials use in the modules are short-videos while Self-Learning Problem based exercises are employed in SCL Learning Activity throughout the module. Learners need to complete a project as an assessment in the module.
