2022 EID UL-FITR CELEBRATION AT CML IS MERRIER THAN EVER

28 May 2022 – In the light of Syawal, Centre for Modern Languages (CML) has held Hari Raya Aidilfitri, or Eid ul-Fitr celebration and a farewell ceremony of Dr. Chiam Kee Swan from CML which was attended and enlivened by more than 90 people.

Among those presents to memorialise the celebration were Centre for Modern Languages’ (CML) staff, 27 Form 5 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Indera Shahbandar (SMKIS) as part of the UMP YASA Akademi Menara Gading programme, and 5 of their accompanying teachers.

The long-awaited CML Eid ul-Fitr open house celebration that finally made a return after two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, took place from 2:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at CML’s administration office in Pekan campus last Friday.

This celebration was thoroughly organized by PBMCare and was warmly welcomed with a speech by the Dean of CML, Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi. Following the speech by Dr. Nik, were two interesting performances by talented Form 5 students from SMKIS, Pekan.

The captivating performance was the result of the guidance of four CML’s instructors, namely Mr. Shamsul Harbi, Mr. Khairul Amri Abdul Aziz, Ms. Hanisah Bon (Kasbon), and Ms. Nur Syafawati Sabuan. Alas, Dr. Chiam Kee Swan was unable to attend due to having to attend to other pressing matters outside of Pahang.

Around 3:30 p.m., all guests were invited to enjoy a variety of delicacies that were prepared and provided by CML staff. The foods were served in a buffet which consisted of ketupat, lemang, rendang, satay, bean curd, laksa Pahang, fried rice, vermicelli soup, roasted lambs, roasted chicken and a lot more. A variety of desserts such as cakes, various puddings and kuih muih were served on that day too.

Other than to celebrate the festive season, the main objective of this occasion was to build friendship among CML staff and to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood after two years of isolation and separation due to pandemic constraints.

Significantly, this ceremony also aimed to commemorate the services and contributions of Dr. Chiam Kee Swan throughout her service with CML and UMP. As she embarks on her retirement, she will be missed as someone dedicated, passionate, hard-working and kind hearted.

Meanwhile, PBMCare also took the opportunity to celebrate the students under the UMP YASA Akademi Menara Gading programme as well as the accompanying teachers who were present for that day.

“Motivation comes from working on things we care about. It also comes from working with people we care about” Sheryl Sandberg says. Hence, the greater the camaraderie between CML members will become as more celebrations take place.

Congratulations on your retirement, Dr. Chiam Kee Swan!

Eid Mubarak to all!
