JUMPSTART THE MOMENTUM; COPING WITH COVID-19.

9 June 2021- Professional Development Unit in collaboration with Psychology and Counseling Unit, Hospital Putrajaya have successfully organised a 2-hour online webinar on Momentum Hidup via Webex and Hospital Putrajaya Facebook live from 2.30p.m to 4.30p.m. with almost 400 participants.

The webinar started with a welcoming speech by Mrs Faten Hameema the Head of Psychology and Counselling Unit of Hospital Putrajaya and then followed by Mrs Maznah Ibrahim the invited speaker.Mrs Maznah is a registered counselor under the Malaysian Board of Counselors and has served for over 10 years since 2006 with extensive experience in the field of child and family counseling. Apart from being a member of the Malaysian Counseling Association, she is also a counselor with therapeutic play skills experience for child counseling, Certified Neo-NLP Practitioner, Facilitator and Practitioner for Creative Arts Therapy and also a Certified STIF In Trainer.

This webinar is about the power of momentum in our life. In a world of social distancing, homeschooling, and economic uncertainty, people have plenty on their minds. Yet whether we are working from home, toiling on the front lines, or seeking new employment, we may be feeling a lot of pressure to stay productive.Especially the frontliners. For those who are at the frontline of healthcare services, taking care of patients and – at the same time – fighting the spread of the virus is accompanied by a toll on healthcare workers’ physical, mental and psychological health. Long and exhausting working hours in layers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) with very few breaks, significant mental stress and anxiety and little social contact for weeks – this is the reality for millions of healthcare workers in pandemic times. Therefore, in this special situation of extreme stress and physical strain, a state of demoralization or burnout is inevitable without sufficient support. Hitting the pause button is not the answer. We cannot afford to put our entire lives on hold. Instead of allowing ourselves to fall into a state of total hibernation, never making any progress, try these strategies to stabilize our mood and get our work done:

1. Emphasize self-care
2. Avoid mental confinement.
3. Draw a line in the sand.

No doubt about it: We are living in unforgettable times and dealing with incredible mental strain. Nevertheless, we will get through the COVID-19 crisis one step at a time—and the first step is to take care of our mental health.
