LEARN TO COMMUNICATE PROFESSIONALLY AND PROFICIENTLY!

13 & 14 June 2022 - Being able to communicate professionally and proficiently in English is integral to positive professional, and personal development, as English continues to be one of the leading languages used globally.

On the 13th and 14th June 2022, the English Communication for Workplace programme was conducted by associates from the Centre for Modern Languages, Ms. Amy Zulaikha Mohd Ali and Ms. Nur Sabrina Zafiran Mohd Jamil at the Library Executive Lounge in UMP Pekan, and the programme was attended by UMP staff from various faculties and departments.

This two-day programme is specially designed using a learner-centred communicative approach to help the participants improve their professional communication in English for successful workplace interactions.

The programme focuses on particular areas of communication in English: writing memos and emails, speaking at business meetings and interviews, giving presentations, and networking online. Whether they intend to communicate with potential employers, employees, partners, or clients, this course was designed so that they can enhance their English communication to help them achieve their language and professional goals.

The course also focuses on networking and professional development to equip participants with more competitive strategies for leveraging their English language use in written and spoken communication.

The programme began with talks related to English corporate language strategy for the workplace and was followed by activities. The activities included scenarios of effective communication that cater to various encounters within university settings. Participants were actively engaged in the activities, allowing them to put into practice what they learned throughout the programme.

The programme was successful, given the positive feedback received from the participants. Everyone left knowing that effective English communication is the key to increasing stakeholders’ engagement and attracting further collaborations.
