AMG YASA AND UMP CSR PROJECT 2021 KICKSTARTED
A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project entitled Akademi Menara Gading Yayasan Sultan Abdullah Universiti Malaysia Pahang 2021 (AMG YASA UMP 2021) officially kickstarted on last Saturday 11th September 2021 at 10:00 am. The project is a joint venture by Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) through its Centre for Modern Languages (CML) and Akademi Menara Gading (AMG) – an academy founded by the Yayasan Al-Sultan Abdullah (YASA). Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Indera Shahbandar (SMKIS) is chosen for this round of CSR project with 35 students joining in as the participants.
The opening ceremony was held through an online platform namely the Google Meet and was attended by representatives from both CML and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Indera Shahbandar (SMKIS). Among the representatives from CML who attended the online opening ceremony were Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Alwi – the Dean of CML, Dr. Fatimah Ali – the CML Deputy Dean of Academic, Dr. Azwin Arif Abdul Rahim – the CML Head of Technical Unit, and Dr. Noryazi Khamis – the CML Head of Language Support Unit.
In addition, several English language lecturers and instructors from the Department of English Language (DEL) CML who will be involved in this project also attended the event and they were Dr. Abdullah Adnan Mohamed, Dr. Mohamad Musab Azmat Ali, Mr Shamsul Harbi, Mr Khairul Amri Abdul Aziz, Madam Nur Syafawati Sabuan, Madam Hanisah Kasbon (Bon), Madam Rosnani Ismail, Madam Nurul Nadia Muhammad, and Miss Arulselvi Uthayakumaran. They were all nicely dressed in resplendent shades of blue and turquoise hues symbolizing the UMP official colours.
Meanwhile, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Indera Shahbandar (SMKIS) was represented by Tuan Haji Abdul Rahman Sulong – the respected Principal, Madam Noraida Razali – the Head of Language Department, Mr Shahrulnizam Abu Bakar – the Head of English Language Panel, and Madam Nooral Hidayatun Alhanif – the English language teacher. Furthermore, this opening event was also joined by the participating students from SMKIS who are form four students wishing to enhance their English language proficiency level to brace themselves for the challenges of communicating at the higher levels after graduating from school.
The opening ceremony was graced by the CML Dean and SMKIS Principal with their warm welcoming speeches. Associate Professor Dr. Nik Aloesnita Nik Alwi – the Dean of CML in her speech expressed her hope that this collaboration between UMP, YASA and SMKIS would help prepare the students for real world tasks. She also wished everyone involved in this CSR project to have fun and enjoy the activities planned. In the meantime, Tuan Haji Abdul Rahman Sulong – the respected SMKIS Principal narrated his school’s effort to assist the students beleaguered by the challenging situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. He elaborated on SMKIS’ initiative to offset the pandemic impact by having several plans to help the students with their lessons especially those without sufficient and reliable devices at home. The opening ceremony ran smoothly and it was later followed by an ice-breaking session conducted by Madam Nur Syafawati Sabuan – the Head of the Community Service Unit of CML UMP.
