ENGLISCAPE ON THE GO 2021

11 DECEMBER 2021 – A half-day programme named Engliscape on the Go 2021 was conducted at the Centre for Modern Languages (CML), UMP Pekan. It was this year’s highlight programme under Program Akademi Menara Gading Universiti Malaysia Pahang Yayasan Al-Sultan Abdullah 2021 (AMG UMP YASA) and directed by Ms Nur Syafawati Sabuan with assistance from members of Community Services Unit and CML Language Support Community (CLSC) Unit.

This programme involved 27 Form 4 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Indera Shahbandar (SMKIS) Pekan, 16 UMP student facilitators and 11 CML academic staff. The students together with their 2 accompanying teachers and Principal arrived at CML around 8.45am. Right after having their breakfast, they gathered in Dewan Kuliah Utama (DKU) and had a war cry led by the President of Perwakilan Mahasiswa Kolej Kediaman 5 (PEKA 5) UMP to raise their spirit and motivation prior to the commencement of the game.

To kickstart the game, the students were briefed about the flow of the programme. They were divided into 7 groups and they were required to complete 7 activities at the different locations, namely checkpoints around CML building. Each group was accompanied by a facilitator to guide them move from one checkpoint to another throughout the game. Before they moved to their first checkpoint, they had a brief warm-up session led by the facilitators. Even though the weather on that day was not really on our side – it was cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, it did not affect our mood as the students had fun participating in and completing all activities prepared by the instructors, namely Win, Lose or Draw, Tongue Twisters, Quizziz, Dear Diary, Spelling Bee, Broken Radio and Draw Down the Lane. All groups were eager to be the first to reach the finishing line.

Upon the completion of all activities, everyone gathered in DKU again for the closing ceremony. Our respected Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nik Aloesnita Nik Mohd Alwi and Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr Hafizoah Kassim were present to support this programme. In her speech, the Dean emphasised that the students were really fortunate to be selected to join this AMG UMP YASA programme and they should grab the opportunity provided to improve themselves not only in English language but also in other aspects like having a more positive mindset and strive to achieve their goals. All the winners were celebrated in the prize-giving ceremony and the facilitators also received a token of appreciation for their kind assistance and commitment throughout the programme. At 1pm, this programme ended with a photography session and all adjourned with an enlightened mind.
