LEARN METAFORA KOGNITIF KATA ADJEKTIF VIA GLOBAL CLASSROOM

14 April 2023 - The Centre for Modern Languages (CML) successfully conducted a Global Classroom (GC) session for the course of UHE3442 Bahasa Melayu Dokumentasi via Microsoft Team at e-Learn UMP platform.  This session represented a significant effort in providing a unique, and enriching educational experience for UMP students who have enrolled in the Bahasa Melayu Dokumentasi course in the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year.

The course, being a newly introduced elective last semester has received positive reaction from UMP students, hence this course was now in its second semester offering as a prove of its value to meet the evolving needs of students’ interest.

The inclusion of a guest lecturer, Dr. Balazs Huszka from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in this Global Classroom initiative provided the students with an excellent opportunity to learn Malay from a global perspective.

Such opportunity to gain valuable insight, and fresh outlook from Dr. Balazs’ lecture on “Metafora Kognitif Kata Adjektif”, offered the students with a deeper understanding of the nuances of Malay language from a diverse, and global viewpoint, considering its usage not only used in Malaysia but also in neighbouring countries such as Brunei, and Indonesia.

Aiman, one of the participants involved in the Global Classroom session, shared his experience of learning more about adjective words that he frequently used in communication before, and now understanding their connection to emotions like anger, and love through the lens of cognitive metaphor.

Significantly, the session proved to be instrumental in improving both spoken, and written communication skills, as using adjectives appropriately is essential in producing effective language expression.

All in all, this fantastic GC session was initiated, and facilitated by Ms. Jamilah Bebe Mohamad, the UHE3442 course instructor. Hopefully, more sessions like this will be conducted in the future to provide meaningful, and engaging learning opportunities for all students.
