19 April 2023 - In a bid to enhance language proficiency and academic excellence, the prestigious Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has announced the inclusion of an English Written Test as part of its scholarship selection process for the year 2023.

The Centre for Modern Languages (CML) together with the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (SAffAD) had conducted an English Written Test for students who were shortlisted for UMP Foundation Excellence Scholarship Offer 2023.

The introduction of the English Written Test as part of UMP's scholarship selection process is a testament to the university's dedication to promoting excellence, and preparing students for a rapidly evolving global landscape.

The English Written Test is expected to not only strengthen the English language skills of scholarship recipients but also provide them with a solid foundation for academic success and global employability.

A total of 19 top-tier talents and candidates from various undergraduate programmes were shortlisted through preliminary screening process:

  • Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA): 5 candidates
  • Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP): 5 candidates
  • Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST): 3 candidates
  • Faculty of Computing (FK): 3 candidates
  • Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM): 1 candidate
  • Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA): 1 candidate
  • Faculty of Electrical, and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE): 1 candidate

A 5-minute briefing was held before each test. The test started with a Personality Test at 9.00 a.m., followed by a Writing Test at 10.15 a.m., and the last paper was a Reading Test at 11.15 a.m.

All tests were conducted virtually through Google Meet platform. Mr. Azle Abd Ghalim from SAffAD took the role as the moderator for the test together with two other associates from CML: Ms. Fathiah Izzati Mohamad Fadzillah, the invigilator for the Writing Test, and Ms. Rosnani Ismail, for the Reading Test session.

Basically, the English Written test will evaluate candidates' language proficiency by assessing their comprehension, vocabulary, and overall writing skills. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their understanding of the English language through correct usage of vocabulary, and the ability to construct coherent and well-structured written responses.

Alhamdulillah, the tests went smoothly. Based on the results of these tests, along with other selection criteria, the UMP Foundation Excellence Scholarship committee will make the final selection of scholarship recipients.

Successful candidates will be notified and offered the scholarship based on their performance in the English Written Test, and other evaluation components. Best of luck to these excellent and awesome candidates!
